Choosing the Right Wattage

150 W is a strong heat lamp, best for large or tall enclosures, tortoise tables and big reptiles. In smaller enclosures it can overheat the space. Always check the basking temperature with a thermometer, and adjust the lamp height or wattage to reach the right temperature for your species. Make sure your reptile has a cooler side of the enclosure to move to.

Basking Lamp Setup

Use a dome lamp fixture with a ceramic socket rated for at least 150 W – plastic sockets can melt.
Point the lamp at one end of the enclosure to create a basking spot, leaving the other end cooler.
Mount it above a mesh top or securely inside, out of your reptile’s reach, so it can’t touch the bulb.
Check the basking temperature with a thermometer and adjust the height as needed.
Run it during the day only, on a timer, for a natural day-night cycle.
Pair it with a UVB light – basking lamps give heat and light, but not UVB.
