Zoo Med Repti Calcium without Vitamin D3 8 oz – Calcium for Turtles and Reptiles

Zoo Med Repti Calcium without D3 is an ultra-fine calcium powder for turtles, tortoises, reptiles and amphibians that helps prevent turtle soft shell and metabolic bone disease. Turtles and reptiles need plenty of calcium to build a hard shell and strong bones, but most pellets, insects and vegetables don’t provide enough on their own. Without extra calcium, turtles can develop a soft or deformed shell, and reptiles can develop metabolic bone disease (MBD). Repti Calcium is pure precipitated calcium carbonate – phosphorus-free, not made from oyster shells, and ground ultra-fine so your pet can absorb more of it. This version is without vitamin D3, making it ideal for turtles and reptiles that get UVB from a proper UVB light. 100% genuine Zoo Med, supplied by an authorised importer in India.

Turtle Soft Shell and Metabolic Bone Disease

A soft, bendy or misshapen shell is one of the most common problems in pet turtles in India. It’s usually caused by metabolic bone disease – when a turtle doesn’t get enough calcium, or enough UVB light to absorb that calcium. Prevention is simple: give calcium for turtles regularly, and provide a proper UVB light such as the Zoo Med ReptiSun 5.0 together with a basking lamp. If your turtle’s shell is already soft, see a reptile vet.

With or Without D3 – Which Do You Need?

Turtles and reptiles use vitamin D3 to absorb calcium. They make their own D3 when they get enough UVB light. If your pet has a good UVB light, calcium without D3 is the right choice for regular use, and it avoids giving too much D3. If your pet has no UVB, a calcium with D3 is needed – ask your vet which is right for your pet.

Suitable For

Red-eared sliders and other aquatic turtles
Tortoises, including Indian star and sulcata tortoises
Bearded dragons and other lizards
Leopard geckos and crested geckos

How to Use

Turtles: sprinkle a light pinch of Repti Calcium over your turtle’s food, or on the pellets before feeding.
Tortoises and other herbivores: sprinkle about ½ teaspoon over food for every 5 oz (140 g) of body weight, weekly.
Insect-eaters: place crickets or other feeder insects in a plastic bag with a little Repti Calcium, shake gently to dust them, and feed straight away. As a guide, feed about 12 dusted crickets per week for every 2.5 oz (70 g) of body weight.
Always follow the directions on the pack, and ask a reptile vet about your pet’s specific needs.

FAQs

Why does my turtle have a soft shell?
A soft shell is usually a sign of metabolic bone disease, caused by too little calcium, too little UVB light, or both. Giving calcium for turtles, like Repti Calcium, along with a proper UVB light such as the Zoo Med ReptiSun 5.0, helps your turtle build a hard, healthy shell. If the shell is already soft, see a reptile vet.

Why do turtles and reptiles need calcium powder?
Most pellets, insects and vegetables don’t provide enough calcium on their own. Turtles and reptiles need extra calcium to build strong shells and bones. Without it, they can develop soft shell and metabolic bone disease.

Should I use calcium with or without D3?
If your turtle or reptile has a good UVB light, use calcium without D3 – your pet makes its own D3 from UVB. If it has no UVB, a calcium with D3 is needed. Ask your vet if you’re unsure.

How do I give calcium to my turtle?
Sprinkle a light pinch over your turtle’s food or pellets before feeding. For tortoises, sprinkle it over their greens.

How do I use it for insects?
Put the insects in a plastic bag with a little Repti Calcium, shake gently to coat them, and feed straight away.

How much should I give?
As a guide, about ½ teaspoon per 5 oz (140 g) of body weight weekly for herbivores like tortoises, or about 12 dusted crickets per week for every 2.5 oz (70 g) of body weight for insect-eaters. Always follow the pack directions.

Is it made from oyster shells?
No. It’s pure precipitated calcium carbonate, free of the impurities sometimes found in oyster-shell calcium.

Is this genuine Zoo Med?
Yes. Exotics India is an authorised importer and distributor of Zoo Med in India, so every tub is 100% genuine.
